Top Story at The Kingston Hospital
The Kingston Hospital is accredited for all services by the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JC).
Affiliation Update:
The Kingston and Benedictine Hospitals have been engaged in discussions on how best to structure a cooperative health care delivery system, which would be consistent with the goals of the Commission on Health Care Facilities in the 21st century (The Berger Commission) and the needs of the community. The two hospitals have a history of joint initiatives, including recruitment of surgeons and a cardiac catheterization demonstration project, and embrace the concept of working together to provide better health care for the patients of Kingston, Ulster County and the surrounding region. The Berger Commission has given the hospitals a deadline of December 31, 2007 to achieve its recommendations. This site will have periodic updates on the process throughout the year.

The Kingston Hospital Now Provides Complimentary Wireless Internet Access
KINGSTON -- As an extra amenity for its guests and patients, The Kingston Hospital is pleased to announce it now provides free wireless internet access. This means that guests and patients will be able to access the internet on their personal laptop computers and PDAs inside the halls of the hospital.
“This service is becoming more essential in our fast-paced world. Both guests and patients are demanding that they have access to information 24/7,” said Rob Gilliland, Vice President of Information Services/CIO at The Kingston Hospital. “We are making this network available at no cost as part of our mission to provide the best quality of care and service to those who come through our doors.”
The installation of this wireless network will lay the foundation for other wireless projects throughout the hospital, including a new mobile voice communication system planned for later this spring , Gilliland said. The Vocera system is intended to improve communication between various departments and physicians within the hospital. Vocera enables fluid, instant voice conversations among team members, across groups and throughout the hospital. It is a hands-free, voice-activated system for a population that is always on the move in a facility, such as nurses.
“The Vocera system will eliminate any delays in communications between healthcare professionals. For example, nurses will be able to call physicians more efficiently and effectively about the changing condition of a patient. “All they need to do is press a button on the lightweight device which hangs around the neck, state who they are looking for, and the system connects them. It eliminates waiting and paging because time is a critical factor in a hospital.”
