CLINICAL NUTRITION
The Clinical Nutrition Department of The Kingston Hospital performs nutritional assessments on all patients admitted to the Hospital. The clinical staff consists of a master's level registered dietician, a certified diabetic educator, registered dieticians and registered dietetic technicians. This staff reviews a patients height and weight, diagnosis, current medical problems, lab values and past medical and surgical histories to determine a nutritional care plan. The goal of these assessments is to prevent malnutrition, reduce the risk of infection, and decrease the patient's length of stay at the Hospital.
The clinical staff also provides individualized education for patients who need a special diet to follow once they leave the Hospital. The clinical nutritionists work collaboratively with the Nutritional Services Department and other Hospital staff to improve customer service.
The Clinical Nutrition Staff also provides community seminars and lectures throughout the year. Our registered dieticians offer private nutritional counseling for specific medical problems, such as high cholesterol and gastrointestinal diseases. For more information or to make an appointment for nutritional counseling, contact the Clinical Nutrition office at The Kingston Hospital at (845) 331-3131, ext. 2221.
