New Imaging Technology Coming to Margaretville Memorial Hospital via The Kingston Hospital

MARGARETVILLE – Margaretville Memorial Hospital, in conjunction with The Kingston Hospital, now can take advantage of innovative technology that will allow physicians and healthcare professionals immediate access to diagnostic images, ensuring speedier results, faster diagnosis and better patient care.

The Kingston Hospital has installed the $1.2 million McKesson PACS (Picture Archiving and Communications System), which allows healthcare professionals to view all radiology images and reports, including X-rays and CT scans, at a password-protected site on-line. This means that physicians will have instant electronic access to these quality images, whether their offices are in Kingston, Saugerties, Margaretville or beyond, at any time of the day or night.

These medical images were previously printed on film and were delivered to the physician's office by courier.   PACS' technology allows for a near film-less process, reducing the costs associated with film processing and saving valuable   time and storage space that film requires. Physicians will also have instant access to historic images and patient records, which enables the comparison of patient images, old and new, and helps measure the effectiveness of their treatment or the development of their condition.

“PACS breaks down the traditional physical and time barriers associated with image managing and reporting,” said Michael Kaminski, President and CEO of The Kingston Hospital. “The patient gets a faster diagnosis and greater flexibility and convenience. If a consultation with a specialist is needed, the image is immediately available at any number of locations.” Mr. Kaminski added that because The Kingston Hospital is considered a referral center for those patients throughout the region who need acute services that Margaretville Memorial Hospital and Ellenville Regional Hospital will also benefit from the PACS technology.
