Wellness Committee
Marian Connell Wellness Education Series
The Marian Connell Wellness Education series is an ongoing presentation by the Wellness Committee of the Margaretville Hospital and Mountainside Residential Care Center Auxiliary. The education series was established through a bequest by Marian Connell, a local academic, community activist and life-long Margaretville Hospital supporter. It is also funded in part by The O’Connor Foundation.
The topics for the series are selected by the members of the Wellness Committee and generally reinforce the focus of national educational programs. Recent lectures have included Women and Heart Disease presented by Aneta DiMova, M.D.; Diabetes presented by Eugene Heslin, M.D. and Arthritis presented by Dr. Richard Moscowitz. The series is videotaped by Fred Margulies, Toucan Productions, and Margaretville, N.Y.. A copy of the most recent videos are posted below. Copies of the lecture DVDs are available to the public at no cost. Details about future programs will be announced through local media and on this web site.

The Wellness Committee was commissioned by the Margaretville Hospital and Mountainside Residential Care Center Auxiliary. The Committee works in collaboration with the Central Catskills Chamber of Commerce, the Delaware County Cooperative Extension and other organizations concerned about the good health and well being of the citizens of the Central Catskills.

Too many women die each year because they are unaware that heart disease is their number one killer. The Wellness Committee selected this topic to help dispel the myth that heart disease is a ‘man’s disease’ or that it is only the concern of older women. One in three women suffers in silence because they are unaware of the symptoms of heart disease, and almost one woman dies every minute of this largely preventable disease. Women at all stages of life are susceptible and are encouraged to attend the lecture to learn more about the disease and to recognize the indications. < read more>
